Frequently Asked Questions
First Year Students
Due to construction around the residence halls, students will need to park on the east side of campus in Parking Lot 3. Shuttles will be provided to New Student Orientation check-in.
Parking is $11.00 per day. Three-day permits ($33 total, cash) will be sold at the entrance of Parking Lot 3 from 7:00 am - 9:00 am. Permits are required to park on campus and failure to display a permit will result in a parking citation. (Citations currently are a $50 penalty)
Those arriving after 9:00 am will need to call our office at (310) 206-6685 when they arrive at Lot 3 so New Student Orientation staff can assist them in obtaining parking permits and transportation to check-in.
Parents dropping off their students will also be directed to Parking Lot 3. If you are dropping off only, you will not need to purchase a parking permit.
Attendants will provide directions to shuttles and students should bring everything they will need for Orientation with them.
Directions to Parking Lot 3 (from the 405):
- Exit Sunset Blvd and head east.
- Turn right on Copa De Oro/Hilgard Avenue
- Turn right on Wyton
- Turn right at the stop sign; proceed to Lot 3 (it will be on the left).
Shuttles will run from Lot 3 and will drop students off at Rieber Hall. Students should check into their rooms, drop off their luggage and then proceed to Covel Commons to check into New Student Orientation.

Early Arrival
If you are arriving the night before your session and need to park, please proceed to Parking Lot 11. You can purchase 4 one-day permits from the front desk at Rieber Hall for $44 (cash required). You will then need to place the permits on the windshield inside your vehicle.
If you are being dropped off for early arrival to your session, you can be dropped off outside of Rieber Hall (street address: 310 De Neve Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90095).
Your rooms will be available at 8:00 pm. If you arrive earlier than that, you may store your luggage at the front desk or in our office, located in 201 Covel Commons.
Transfer Students
Transfer students will be parking in Parking Lot 7 for New Student Orientation. Parking permits are $11 for the day (cash). All vehicles are required to have a permit or will be subject to citation. (Citations currently are a $50 penalty)
Parking attendants will be at the entrance of Lot 7 from 6:45 am to 9:00 am. Late arrivals can purchase permits from Parking Lot 4.
Directions to Parking Lot 7 (from the 405):
- Exit Sunset Blvd and head east.
- Turn right on Bellagio Drive
- Turn left at Charles E. Young Drive (at the T)
- Turn right Parking Lot 7 (the lot is underground and will be on your right, before you reach Westwood Plaza)
Orientation check-in for transfer students is at Royce Quad, which is not directly accessible by car.

First Year Students

Transfer Students

All official records you have received from UCLA, including your session confirmation

Copies of transcripts, test score results and catalogs from any post-high school institutions (to assist in planning your coursework for the Fall)

Backpack or bag to carry items on campus

First Year students only: toiletries, a towel, an alarm clock (sheets and a pillow will be provided)
IMPORTANT: Admissions must receive copies of your final official transcripts by July 15, 2013.
If you want to arrive the night before the session begins, and you have not already signed up to do so, please call us as soon as possible at (310) 206-6685. Also, although accomodations are included in First Year session fees, family members who wish to accompany students to the Los Angeles area during New Student Orientation may want to check a listing of local accommodations.
To get a BruinCard, you will need to submit a signed BruinCard Terms & Conditions form and submit a passport quality photo. Follow the steps below to apply for your BruinCard.

Visit the Online Card Office at www.bruincard.ucla.edu and click on Apply for Card on the left menu. You must have a UCLA logon ID and password to access the online application.

Your online application must be received no later than July 1, 2013 in order to ensure timely processing, and must meet the predetermined criteria.
We only accept photo with a white background (i.e. passport photo) and high resolution. We DO NOT accept photos with hats, sunglasses, bandanas, colored backgrounds, and profiled pictures. Please view here for samples of acceptable and non-acceptable photos.

If you apply for the card on time and the photo submitted is approved, you be able to pick up your Card at Summer Orientation. You will be asked to present a government-issued photo ID (ex: Driver’s License, Passport, Military ID, etc.) for verification. BruinCard will not be mailed and must be picked up in person by the cardholder.

If you are not attending orientation, obtain your Card at the BruinCard Center located in 123 Kerckhoff Hall anytime in September.

Each position has a separate application and interview process. You can apply for both positions, but be prepared to go through two interviews - if you are chosen for both, you will need to decide which position you wish to take.
